Otra prueba argumenta que el bostezo es un reflejo del cuerpo en señal de cansancio o aburrimiento y otra más reciente (2007) indica que es una reacción del cuerpo para enfriar el cerebro. El estudio dice que el nivel de contagio del bostezo es mayor entre conocidos o familiares y menor entre extraños, pero nadie duda sobre su «contagiosidad».
